100th post?? yes, please!

The day we thought would never come is finally here. I have officially brought 100 doses of trouble into the world! Now, I know some posts have been more interesting than others, but give me a break. It's not as easy as you would think. I know that I got too busy to post daily, but the past few days, I've been fortunate enough to have some extra time so I could post more often. Hopefully this pattern will continue, and I can share my random rambles a little more. Otherwise, I think my poor boyfriend is going to cut his ear off so he doesn't have to listen to my never-ending chatter.

Now you might be wondering what I am going to do to celebrate my 100th post....Well, I'm glad you asked.
First, I'm going to jump up and down at my accomplishment.

wow, that took a lot out of me. I should probably lie back down.
Secondly, I know I'm a dork and all, but I really haven't planned anything special for my 100th posting.
Since I'm still fighting off this flu, I will probably spend it cuddled up with my heating pad and a bottle of water, watching daytime TV. hey, sounds like a party to me.

Happy Birthday, Edgar Allan Poe.

well, thanks to this stupid flu bug I picked up at the end of last week, I've been quarantined to my room since Saturday. Lucky for all of you, my fever is gone, but I'm still contagious. Why is that lucky for you? Because I finally feel good enough to do something, but since I'm stuck in my room, all I can do is my blog. So, I get to bring you some trouble for the day.
Now, I thought about doing a word of the week, but I haven't been able to keep any real food down since Friday, so I don't really have the strength to create a post that has a lot of thought into it.
But, it was brought to my attention that today is Edgar Allan Poe's birthday. And as one of my favorite authors, I thought I would rip off wikipedia and share what I got with all of you in celebration of his birthday.
But before I do, I would like to say:

Oh wait. that's not right.... anyway, here's what I found on Poe for any of you who care:
Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809 – October 7, 1849) was an American writer, poet, editor and literary critic, considered part of the American Romantic Movement. Best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre, Poe was one of the earliest American practitioners of the short story and is considered the inventor of the detective-fictiongenre. He is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. He was the first well-known American writer to try to earn a living through writing alone, resulting in a financially difficult life and career.
He was born as Edgar Poe in Boston, Massachusetts; he was orphaned young when his mother died shortly after his father abandoned the family. Poe was taken in by John and Frances Allan, of Richmond, Virginia, but they never formally adopted him. He attended the University of Virginia for one semester but left due to lack of money. After enlisting in the Army and later failing as an officer's cadet at West Point, Poe parted ways with the Allans. His publishing career began humbly, with an anonymous collection of poems,Tamerlane and Other Poems (1827), credited only to "a Bostonian".
Poe switched his focus to prose and spent the next several years working for literary journals and periodicals, becoming known for his own style of literary criticism. His work forced him to move between several cities, including Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City. In Baltimore in 1835, he married Virginia Clemm, his 13-year-old cousin. In January 1845 Poe published his poem "The Raven" to instant success. His wife died oftuberculosis two years after its publication. He began planning to produce his own journal, The Penn (later renamed The Stylus), though he died before it could be produced. On October 7, 1849, at age 40, Poe died in Baltimore; the cause of his death is unknown and has been variously attributed to alcohol, brain congestion, cholera, drugs, heart disease, rabies, suicide, tuberculosis, and other agents.
Poe and his works influenced literature in the United States and around the world, as well as in specialized fields, such as cosmology and cryptography. Poe and his work appear throughout popular culture in literature, music, films, and television. A number of his homes are dedicated museums today.

Well, anyway- it's time for me to take some more medicine and sleep some more, woo-hoo!

Happy birthday, Edgar Allan Poe.
that's better.

2. Actually make prints of said pictures.
3. Keep my room clean for a full week. yeah....
4. Use my gym membership. I started my gym log chart...that's a start!
5. Perform somewhere.
6. Take a trip up to Virginia - tentatively planned for next month

9. Spend a whole day with my nephew.
10. Pay off at least one credit card.   1/12/11! :)
11. Start doing yoga again.
12. Spend an entire day in Asheville with Jonathan.
13. Let Jonathan know how much I love and appreciate him, everyday. -He says that I already do this, but I think I could do better.
14. Spend more time with my friends. -this one could use some more work.
15. Read one of those classic novels with zombies added - also in progress, sorta.
16.  Cook dinner for my parents. -now that they are finally back from VA, I might actually get to do this one!
17. Visit somewhere haunted

#10: Pay off at least one credit card- has been accomplished! I can honestly say that out of all of the things on my list, this one was not the one I expected to do first. I had actually began to wonder if that one was even possible, but thanks to some negotiation skills on my part, I was able to reduce one of my balances to only have to pay 60% of what I owed. I know, I'm awesome :)

As for the other things on my list....well, they are a work in progress.

Love Potion....# 9?

Well, from yesterday's blog, we learned that the word "philter" means a potion, usually a love potion. This word appealed to me, because now I can use it to describe to people how Jonathan got me to fall in love with him. So during my research, I found some interesting things.

Here's how to make love potion tea:

LOVE POTION TEA

1 pinch of rosemary
2 teaspoons of black tea
3 pinches thyme
3 pinches nutmeg
3 fresh mint leaves
6 fresh rose petals
6 lemon leaves
3 cups pure spring water
Sugar
Honey

To make another person fall in love with you, brew this tea on a Friday during a waxing moon (moving from empty to full).

Place all ingredients in an earthenware or copper tea kettle. Boil three cups of pure spring water and add to the kettle. Sweeten with sugar and honey, if desired.

Before drinking, recite this rhyme:

BY LIGHT OF MOON WAXING
I BREW THIS TEA
TO MAKE [lover's name] DESIRE ME.

Drink some of the tea and say:

GODDESS OF LOVE
HEAR NOW MY PLEA
LET [lover's name] DESIRE ME!
SO MOTE IT BE
SO MOTE IT BE

On the following Friday, brew another pot of the love potion tea and give some to the person you want to love you. He or she will soon begin to fall in love with you.

And here's the ever popular Love Potion #9:

LOVE POTION #9
To be performed on the 9th day of the 9th month.

 9 oz. sweet red wine
 9 basil leaves
 9 red rose petals
 9 cloves
 9 apple seeds
 9 drops vanilla extract
 9 drops strawberry juice
 9 drops apple juice
1 ginseng root, cut into 9 equal pieces

By the light of 9 pink votive candles, put these nine ingrediants into a cauldron on the ninth hour of the ninth day of the ninth month of the year.
Stir the potion nine times with a wooden spoon, each time reciting the following:

LET THE ONE WHO DRINKS THIS WINE
SHOWER ME WITH LOVE DIVINE.
SWEET LOVE POTION NUMBER NINE
MAKE HIS/HER LOVE FOREVER MINE.

Bring the mixture to a boil and then reduce the heat and let it simmer for nine minutes.
Remove the cauldron from the heat and allow the potion to cool off.
Blow nine times upon the potion, bless it in the names of nine love-goddesses, (see below) and then strain it through a cheesecloth into a clean container.
Cover and refrigerate it untill you are ready to serve it to the man or woman from whom you desire love and affection. (Do not allow anyone other than your beloved to look at,touch, or drink the love potion.)
The nine goddesses: Inanna, Ishtar, Astarte, Hathor, Nephthys, Aphrodite, Venus, Freya, Arianrhod

Hmm, I knew I shouldn't have drank that weird drink Jonathan gave me on Halloween.

Anyway, here's some love potion humor for you:

Well, seeing as how today is 1-11-11, I need to go celebrate by doing something weird.

Word of the week- philter

Ok, I realize that it's been a while since I've done a word of the week, but with the holidays, and my boyfriend going missing to search for a cure for my clichemia, I haven't really had a lot of time.
But lucky for all of you, I just so happen to be on a snow day, so I have nothing to do other than write a blog.

Oh yeah, Jonathan has returned. But I think something might have happened to him on his trip- He's acting stranger than normal....

Anyway, the word of the week is brought to you by the letter "P"!

philter

 : FIL-ter  noun;
1. A magic potion for any purpose.
2. A potion, charm, or drug supposed to cause the person taking it to fall in love, usually with some specific person.

For all of you that keep wondering why I am with Jonathan, I finally have your answer: He must have given me a philter! It all makes perfect sense now.

Tune in tomorrow for more on love potions!

Clichémia?? not me!

So it seems my boyfriend thinks I have a problem with speaking in clichés... With all due respect,  I personally don't think I have a problem, I just find myself using them time and again. I know that love is blind, so I feel like he should love me for who I am, clichémia or no clichémia. So I said to him :"It's my way or the highway." So, needless to say, he hit the road running to search for a cure for me.
And even though I miss him dearly, I know that distance makes the heart grow fonder.
Check out his side of the story and his progress on his blog: http://enviousmidget.weebly.com/

I'm nervous to think that he is getting more than he bargained for from being in a relationship with me. But he needs to understand that my personality has no rhyme or reason...I mean, I like things like palindromes and clichés- I guess he needs to learn to look before he leaps, especially when it comes to falling in love.
The funny thing is, he would bend over backwards and probably give his right arm for me- Not only because he's left handed, but believe it or not, I think he loves me even more for my quirks.... I am the apple of his eye!

I've always considered myself lucky, and it's even been said of others that everything I touch turns to gold. And I definitely got lucky with having such an awesome boyfriend that puts up with me, but I'm stuck between a rock and a hard spot with this cliché dilemma. I can either stop talking in clichés so he doesn't think there's anything wrong with me (if he would fall for it) or I can wait patiently for him to see the error of his ways, and embrace my way of life, and start speaking in clichés with me. Or maybe he'll realize that he was dead wrong about me having a problem and we will wipe the slate clean, and pretend this all never happened... I guess I'll just have to play it by ear. I'm counting on my good fortune to help me through this one. And even if he does end up breaking up with me over this, I guess it's better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all.
I was going to say something else, but it seems as if I've lost my train of thought. Man, it was just on the tip of my tongue...I hate it when that happens! Anyway, I hope I haven't bored you to tears... I'm gonna make like a banana and split.
But first, here's a little cliché humor for you:

ps- there are at least 30 clichés in this entry- use your eagle eye to spot them all!

24 things I need to do before I turn 24

well, since there's only 6 months and 6 days before I turn 24, I figured now would be the time for me to start on my list of "24 things I need to do before I turn 24"
So here it is, in no particular order:

1. Buy a good camera and take more pictures.

2. Actually make prints of said pictures.

3. Keep my room clean for a full week. (and really clean, not just shoving things in the closet)...this one's going to be tough.

4. Use my gym membership.- my goal is to go at least 50 times before my birthday... that would be about 3-4 times a week. sounds reasonable, right?

5. Perform somewhere. It doesn't matter if it's singing or playing guitar, trumpet, piano, or any other instrument I get the desire to learn.

6. Take a trip up to Virginia to see my brother, his amazing wife, and my adorable nephew...And I might as well catch up with my long-lost JMU friends while I'm up there :)

7. Finish one of the 485974564 songs I've started writing- and actually play it for someone other than my mom.

8. Volunteer at the Humane Society.

9. Spend a whole day with my nephew.....Just me and him, and he gets to choose what we do. I love that little guy!

10. Pay off at least one credit card. (I think I can, I think I can!)

11. Start doing yoga again

12. Spend an entire day in Asheville with Jonathan. (I love that place!)

13. Let Jonathan know how much I love and appreciate him, everyday. He is the best thing that's ever happened to me, so it's only natural that I dedicate his favorite number to him.<3

14. Spend more time with my friends. I have gotten too busy lately, and I really need to take more time for my awesome friends who have always been there for me.

15. Read one of those classic novels with zombies added. (Yes, I know, I'm a dork.)

16.  Cook dinner for my parents. (clean up is optional)

17. Visit somewhere haunted. I don't really know of any places nearby, so I'm open to suggestions!

18. Play a song on my guitar for the kiddos

19. Take a day trip with no destination in mind.

20. Go to Carowinds. I keep saying I'm going to go, and never do. Now that it's on my list, I have to!

21. See my SLO girls. I miss those girls so much....I definitely think a Vegas reunion or something needs to happen asap. And, trying to be reasonable- if it doesn't work out that I get to make a trip before my birthday, I will definitely have to have skype dates with each of them :)

22. Get my fortune told.- I've always been curious about those places, so why not?

23. Give blood.- This is something I used to do often, but stopped....I shouldn't let that one bad experience stop me from doing something good!

24. Go to the beach. I miss that place. Plus, I haven't been to an East Coast beach in like 7 years. (Perhaps this can be a trip for my actual birthday....)

So there you have it. I will post entries to correlate when I actually do things and mark them off my list. I think all of these things are attainable within the next 187 days....but I better get started- only 4488 hours to go!

Helllooooo 2011

Dear 2010,
We had a good run- All in all, you were a pretty good year for me. It was full of changes, growing up, and finding myself and figuring out what I need to do with my life. For that reason, you will always hold a special place in my heart. But I must admit, towards the end of our relationship was the best part for me, as it seemed to get better and better every day as your final days approached.
Even though I just began my relationship with 2011, I'm afraid that I'm already in love... I know, I know, we've only known each other for a day, but it just feels so right. You know, fate brought us together, and I've never been one to argue with fate.
I'm sorry if this comes as a shock or disappointment to you, but like I said, you made me happy too- I just feel like 2011 is going to make me even happier. And if you love me as much as you said you did, then you would only be happy for my happiness.
I'll never forget you, as I hope you will never forget me.
